1964
Brothers Bill and Bob Healey founded the Viking Yacht Company by purchasing Peterson-Viking Builders, a small, struggling New Jersey builder of 37-foot wooden sportfishing boats.
1970s
Viking transitioned to fiberglass production with a 33-footer, followed by the 35 and the 40/41 series; more than 600 of the 40/41 were sold.
1993
After the luxury tax and recession cut the workforce from 1,500 to fewer than 80, the Healeys' industry advocacy helped win the tax's repeal in 1993, and Viking rebuilt.
2019
Viking established Valhalla Boatworks, its center-console subsidiary, debuting with three new models.
Today
Viking has delivered more than 5,500 boats and builds sportfishing and motor yachts up to 90 feet at its New Gretna, New Jersey manufacturing campus.
Craft & manufacturing
Viking builds at a single New Gretna, New Jersey campus, where it moved from wooden 37-footers to fiberglass series production in the early 1970s and has invested continuously since, including a major plant expansion and five-axis CNC tooling for hulls and parts. Sister operations, Atlantic Marine Electronics and Palm Beach Towers, complete electronics and tower work so boats can deliver turn-key, and Valhalla Boatworks extends the same manufacturing base to center consoles.
Viking has been owned and led by the Healey family since its 1964 founding, and presents building a better boat every day as its working philosophy.
In-house manufacturing depth
Builder-stated
Viking emphasizes vertically integrated production at New Gretna, including a multi-million dollar plant expansion and five-axis CNC tooling that it credits for precision and efficiency.
Proven sportfish lineage
Builder-stated
More than 5,500 Vikings have been delivered across the convertible, enclosed bridge, and open ranges, a production record the company cites as the proof of its sportfishing pedigree.
